Patience is a virtue that Frank Ocean fans may have once had. But after countless release dates that came and went, fake download links and sporadic Frank Ocean sightings with no word on an album, it’s understandable why many have a hard time believing that the highly anticipated Boys Don’t Cry is now set to release this Friday, August 5th.
Now that a cryptic live stream appeared on Ocean’s website last night of an empty filming warehouse an an Apple Music emblem in tow, it appears that this may finally be the moment we’ve all been waiting for.
According to the New York Times, the August 5th release date was reported from a close, anonymous source who also disclosed details about the album dropping on Apple Music, including a video and printed publication to be released exclusively in Apple stores. It comes as no surprise that Ocean would follow the exclusive route to shuffle his most recent project along. Fans have been clamoring for him to release new music since the critically acclaimed and Grammy-award winning Channel Orange of 2012.
If BDC really does start streaming on August 5th, hopefully Apple Music has more than a few back-up servers to handle to chaos that will ensue because the internet will break. But despite the devotion between Frank and his fans, there are definitely trust issues that have to be sorted out as a large consensus is not convinced that August 5th is a day worth anticipating.
When you’ve been lied to time and time again, it’s hard to believe that anything from Frank Ocean’s team is worth believing.
