Bassett told ABC Radio Networks host Candice Williams that she has at least two people on her shortlist of playing her on screen.

“There’s, you know, the incredible Anika Noni Rose and Naturi Naughton and on and on and on,” said Bassett. “Just beautiful. And that’s just two of a list of many, just beautiful, sisters.”

“I appreciate their work [and] love them,” she continued. “They can play me, if they so choose to…bring more talent to the table.”

According to the article, Bassett has gotten to know both Rose and Naughton through her career. Bassett was initially reported to star with Rose in Disney’s The Princess and The Frog. Naughton and Bassett both starred in Notorious B.I.G. biopic Notorious.

If the two actresses do ever vie for the opportunity to play their friend, they will have a lot of ground to cover in Bassett’s career. Bassett has starred in numerous films and TV series over the course of her time in Hollywood, portraying Black greats like Tina Turner, Betty Shabazz, Rosa Parks, Katherine Jackson, and others. She has also inspired young generations through her roles in Our Friend, Martin, The Snowy Day and Black Panther. Bassett is currently starring in 9-1-1 and the upcoming action pic, Gunpowder Milkshake
