Magnolia Pictures has acquired the worldwide rights to Tyrel, the Sundance drama which stars Jason Mitchell.
Michael Cera, Chris Abbott, Ann Dowd and Caleb Landry Jones also star in the Sebastián Silva-written and produced film.
In the film, Mitchell’s Tyrel “spirals out of control when he realizes he’s the only black person attending a weekend birthday party in a secluded cabin.”
During our interview at Sundance with Mitchell, he told us, “(Silva) really wanted to know if you were black, how would you feel in this situation. A lot of the ways I moved reflected that. That’s what makes Tyrel such a beautiful movie. They have things in there that only black people can get.”
No word on a timeline for release.
