A film that we've been following for since its early days in production, in 2010, has found a home, as it continues to tour the film festival circuit.

S&A has learned exclusively that One Village Entertainment has picked up worldwide rights to director Russell Leigh Sharman’s feature film debut, previously titled Small Of Her Back, an will now be released under the title Apartment 4E.

Adapted from his 2008 play Small of Her Back, Sherman's chamber drama stars Nicole Beharie and Christopher Domig.

Its synopsis again, reads:

Piper (Beharie) is a beautiful, intelligent young woman with everything to live for…but she’s trapped in a dark world of her own making. Deeply troubled, desperate and clutching a handgun, Piper has not left her apartment in a long time, and when there’s a knock on the door, she will face a choice that will make the difference between life and death. This stranger may have the answers to the mystery at the center of Piper’s world, or he may have his own reasons for tracking her down. The truth lies up the stairs and down the hall in Apartment 4E.

One Village Entertainment will release the film on DVD, as well as across digital platforms this year, 2013.

"One Village is pleased to have Apartment 4E in our line up," said Brett Dismuke, Sr. Vice President of Acquisitions for RLJ Entertainment (parent company of One Village). "Nicole Beharie’s performance in this film is one of the best I’ve seen – truly a must see!"

Our own Vanessa Martinez screened the film at the Urbanworld Film Festival last fall, and thoroughly loved it. You can read her enthusiastic review HERE.

Congrats to Russell and company on the pick-up.

When we have specific release dates and platforms, we'll certainly share them here.
