From Writer/Director Rob Brown comes a new thriller titled Sixteen, which tells the story of a young man named Jumah, a former child soldier from the DRC, living in London, with his 16th birthday on the horizon, who is put into a situation during which he’ll have to confront his past, allowing him to finally move forward with his new life.
Things seem to be better now. He has a tentative relationship building with a girl at a school. But then Jumah witnesses a stabbing and those involved want to ensure that Jumah says nothing to the police about what he saw that night. Pressure mounts as violence forces its way back into Jumah’s life.
Roger Jean Nsengiyumva stars as Jumah in the Seize Films-produced project.
The film’s script was chosen from 400 entries to be performed at the BAFTA Rocliffe New Writing Forum at the Edinburgh International Film Festival 2011.
The film was shot over 18 short days in April, on a tiny budget, and to help see it through post-production, the filmmakers have launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise 15,000 pounds (or about $23,000). Thus far, with a week left, the campaign has raised about 1/3 of that amount.
