Gbenga Akinnagbe, best known for his roles in TV’s The Wire, The Good Wife and Nurse Jackie and from supporting roles in Lottery Ticket and The Taking of Pelham 123, will star in the indie horror thriller The Somnambulist.

Written and directed by Rachel Grissom, the film centers around a woman named Rebekah who survives a brutal attack and now suffers from hallucinations, paranoia and insomnia. To avoid being alone, she moves in with a close friend named Irene; who is an insurance investigator. Rebekah starts assisting Irene in the case of Alex Chandler, and “the deeper that Rebekah delves into Alex’s case, the less confident she becomes in her grip on reality. As short term and long term memories become indistinguishable from one another, she no longer remembers where the threat is coming from – is it Alex, is it her initial assailants coming to finish the job, or is it from within?” (via Shock Till You Drop)

Gbenga Akinnagbe will play the role of Alex Chandler. He is the male leading role, and the only black member of the cast. The other main protagonists are Heather McComb as Rebekah and Vail Bloom as Irene. It will be interesting to see how his character unfolds in this plot.

The film is alledgedly set for domestic and foreign distribution by Seven Arts Pictures.

I haven’t seen a trailer for it and there’s no word on the actual film’s release date, although IMDB shows 2011 as the release year.
