Ghost Brothers, a recently premiered TV series, chronicles the ghost-hunting experiences of the first African-American team of paranormal investigators. Yes, it’s true — there are black people searching for ghosts.

The trio, composed of Clark Atlanta University alumni and fraternity brothers, Dalen Spratt, Juwan Mass and Marcus Harvey, travel the country to try to connect with the dead. Interestingly enough, all of the members were raised in religious households.

Before Marlon Wayan’s A Haunted House, we’d never seen a black person as the protagonist in a movie about paranormal activity. Though it was a parody, on the surface brought black people into a space that had long been dominated by our white counterparts.

“I just loved being frightened, but I always noticed that there wasn’t a representation of us on any of these shows. There were no black people doing any of these investigations,” Dalen Spratt told the Huffington Post.
