Kartemquin Films, the Chicago based documentary film production company, with many films to their credits, including Hoop Dreams, The Interrupters, A Good Man (about choreographer Bill T. Jones) and No Crossover: The Trails of Allen Iverson, is currently working on their latest project about the 1963 Chicago Public School Boycott.
50 years ago on October 1963, over 200,000 people, mostly school students, protested and marched over the school system's racist segregationist policies by then CPS Superintendent Benjamin Willis.
So naturally, Kartemquin is currently looking for anyone anywhere who was invloved in the boycott, in any capacity, whether as a student protester or as a teacher.
Kartemquin actually shot footage of the boycott in 1963, and their new project, aside chronicling the event, intends, to reconnect participants with each other, and to provide "a moderrn perspective of the impact and legacy of the protest."
