Kuduro (which literally translates as ‘hard ass’) is a cultural movement that was born in Angola in the last decade of the Civil War. Created in the discos and raves in downtown Luanda through a fusion between House and Techno beats and traditional Angolan rhythms, Kuduro spilled over from the center of the city to the suburbs. It rapidly spread throughout Angola, continental Africa and now all over the world.

Kuduro mixes dance, music and lifestyle; Its lyrics take inspiration from the simple day-to-day things in life, and its influence is present everywhere.

Directed by Mário Patrocínio, the feature documentary, I Love Kuduro, follows the most idolized stars of the phenomenon, namely Bruno de Castro, Sebém, Nagrelha, Hochi Fu, Namayer, Tchobari, Titica, Francis Boy and Cabo Snoop, offering a unique view on the new generation of Angolan talent.

It’s next scheduled to screen at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, the upcoming 21st edition, taking place April 24–May 4, with a slate that includes 197 titles from 43 countries.
