Are YOU ready for a black "Bachelor"? Lamar Hurd, who is a Portland, Oregon sports broadcaster, is on a mission to become the first African-American to headline the popular and long running ABC show The Bachelor.

I have to confess that I've never had any interest in watching the show, but I get the concept. Some really goodlooking, single dude is up for grabs, and a group of desperate women, back stab each other, lie, cheat, steal and do practically ANYTHING to be the one who the guy picks as his choice at the end. Not exactly a show extolling women's empowerment.

However, since the show first came on the air, the bachelor and the women have been white. Usually, from what I gather, there is, once in a while, a black woman contestant who's always eliminated from the show very early on. However the creator of the show, Mike Fleiss, recently said that it was never his intention for the show to be so white. He always wanted more diversity on the show, but things never worked out that way: "It's just that for whatever reason, they don't come forward. I wish they would."

So now Fleiss has gotten his wish with Hurd, who is campaigning to become the first black Bachelor on the show. And below you can watch his audition tape that he submitted to the show.

But let's say he was picked; would you watch the show? Seems like a really nice, personable guy. The kind of guy you would like to take home to mother. But would you or America be willing to watch a bunch of white women fighting over him? Would there be a huge drop in the ratings? Though I can imagine it becoming the No 1 MUST SEE show for brothers. (It's our wildest dream come true… HA HA)

However, one would assume that having a black guy as the main lead, the cast of women would have a greater diversity with whte, black and Hispanic women on the show for a change, to sort of "lower the temperature" if you know what I mean..
