2 projects we profiled earlier this year look like they'll finally be able to get off the ground, thanks to a round of financial backing by Ottawa-based film financier Telefilm Canada. 

Of course, both projects are Canadian productions.

The first… a Laurence Fishburne thriller sci-fi thriller titled The Colony, which was set to start production in Toronto at the end of March.

The Jeff Renfore directed film, which he co-wrote with Patrick Tarr, Pacal Trottier and Svet Rouskov, centers on a group of underground survivors fighting to survive after the next Ice Age, fending off an invasion of feral cannibals.

The project snagged $2.3 million from Telefilm Canada. 

The second… the Sudz Sutherland/Tatyana Ali feature film project titled Home Again, which centers on three adults raised as outsiders from childhood, and deported from Canada, the U.S. and London, England, to Jamaica, where they were born. The three deportees find they have to fight for survival in a Jamaica where family support, friends and shelter is elusive, but where ultimately hope and the human spirit emerges.

The Canadian-produced feature, Sudz's second, which was scheduled to begin shooting on location in Trinidad, Jamaica and Canada in January when we last reported on it, picked up $1.6 million in financing from Telefilm Canada.

The drama, which has been described as "a searing drama in the vein of City of God" (major comparison there), will also star Lyriq Bent, Stephan James, Richard Chevolleau, C.C.H. Pounder, and Fefe Dobson.

It's unclear if either of these 2 projects has already begun principal photography. I did contact the publicist for Sudz's projcet about a week ago, asking for any updates on the project, but no response yet. Maybe today's news is the update I would've received.
