Can you imagine the excitement of pursuing your passion while simultaneously watching your best friend live out her dreams? For Chlöe and Halle Bailey, that’s a reality for them each day. The Atlanta-born sisters and musical duo began their career on YouTube, covering songs originally released by some of your faves. After catching the attention (and ear) of Beyoncé, they were signed to her record label, Parkwood Entertainment.

After dropping two studio albums and starring alongside one another in a hit television show, the pair are currently working on solo projects. Their bond, however, remains strong. In fact, here are five things that prove, no matter what, they stand ten toes down for each other.

1. They're quick to defend each other against trolls

You might want to think twice about coming for one of the Bailey sisters because the other one has no problem stepping to her defense. Last July, a Twitter user made it their business to comment on Chlöe’s budding career.

“I feel like Chloe Bailey is cute but y’all be overhyping shawty,” the tweet read, as Blavity previously reported.

Within 24 hours, said user had a message from the younger Bailey sister herself.

“Girl let’s not start,” Halle responded with angel and hush emojis. “Be blessed!! God loves you too!!!”

In case you were planning on tussling with the dynamic duo, we highly suggest you don’t.

2. They learned to write songs together

With so much talent between the two of them, you’d think both Chlöe and Halle received the finest schooling in the country. That’s the opposite.

In a feature with Time in 2018, they revealed their father taught them how to write music. Chlöe was 10 and Halle was eight, and it all started in their Atlanta dining room.

“He printed out all these things to read about applying figurative language to your lyrics — like using similes and metaphors and personification — because really a song is just poetry put to music,” the “Treat Me” singer explained.

“So from 10 and eight we just wrote our own songs, and that’s how we learned. And the more we did it, the better we got. And how I learned to play my keys and do production — it was on YouTube or Google. If I didn’t know something, I’d just research it, and that’s how I picked it up. I think our production and music style sounds different and out-of-the-box because we’re just such big fans of music and we never force it, so it just naturally comes out like a big fusion of all these genres.”

3. They do not entertain talk of comparison or competition

Even when performing together, Chlöe and Halle are two different people with different personalities. Still, it doesn’t stop critics from finding ways to analyze the two on the same scale. In a January interview with In the Know’s Elaine Welteroth, Chlöe explained that she doesn’t take too kindly to constant scrutiny.

“It is the most shallow, most disturbing thing,” the 23-year-old said. “It was very off-putting to know how people would try to put two young Black sisters who love their craft so much and love each other so much, how they try to pit them against each other just because they’re different in some ways. So that’s the only downside.”

4. Imposter syndrome is no match for their success

It’s natural to have feelings of doubt when your career is moving in the direction you’ve always known it would. Imposter syndrome affects a lot of us, but the Grown-ish alums had the perfect response to how they kept each other lifted in times of skepticism.

“It just feels so surreal to be doing meetings [with] all these people that I’m such big fans of, and sometimes you feel like you have imposter syndrome,” Halle said, as Blavity previously reported. “Chlöe was lifting my spirits up the other day like, ‘No, you’re meant to be in there too.’ I think that’s just so powerful and so special to have someone like her in my life where she can just remind me of that.”

Chlöe echoed the sentiments with equal praise for her musical partner.

“Anytime I’m feeling discouraged, or like if I’m doubting myself, Halle will be the first one to make me snap out of it. I’m so grateful to be on this journey of life with her, because there’s so many moments where I do doubt myself and my capabilities. Having someone who knows every single bit and piece of me encourage me, it means the world every single time.”

5. Their proudest moments have come from supporting each other

Though her vocals aren’t on the track, Halle wasn’t far when Chlöe filmed the visuals for her debut single. In March, the 22-year-old told Us that her “proudest moment was watching Chlöe tape the music video for ‘Have Mercy,'” adding she “also loved seeing it all come together when it came out.”

As for Chlöe, she revealed she cried during a screen test for Halle’s role as Ariel in The Little Mermaid.

“I was more than proud. I was screaming and crying. She worked so hard,” she said in 2019.

Though they are (temporarily) working on different things, the love between Chlöe and Halle Bailey could never be separated.
