In the world of technology, mainstream conferences can feel unrelatable and unable to fully bridge cultural gaps for minorities. Tech 808 is the solution to that problem.

Produced by The Phat Startup, Tech 808 was created for minority and millennial entrepreneurs and appeals to those interested in the intersection of hip hop culture, tech and entrepreneurship. The first conference kicked off in 2014, but this year multiple stops will extend the experience for attendees across the country. The three stops include D.C. (which happened in June), Oakland and a finale in NYC, where the original conference began.
The next Tech 808 conference will happen on August 15 in Oakland. In collaboration with Impact HUB Oakland and sponsored by Kapor Center for Social Impact and MailChimp, The Phat Startup’s conference will once again link entrepreneurs, tech enthusiasts, students and more together in order to elevate and motivate those looking to succeed in the tech industry. Attendees will be surrounded by wonderful peers to network with and grow from, and the 14 speakers on the bill will give advice and insight on business practices to kickstart potential startups.
Speakers will include:

● Michael Seibel, Partner, Y Combinator
● Tiffani Bell, Founder, Detroit Water Project
● Rakia Reynolds. Founder, Skai Blue Media
● Joah Spearman, Co-Founder & CEO, Localeur
● Dwight Peters, Founder, Backershub
● Morgan DeBaun, Founder & CEO, Blavity
● Benoni, Founder, The Bizz Plan
● Danielle Leslie, Director of Revenue Growth, Mayvenn
● Sheena Allen, Founder & CEO, Sheena Allen Apps

If you’re interested in learning from the best (a diverse group that includes different races, genders and social classes), educating other minorities to pursue their own tech start-ups or tech-enabled businesses and if you want to help foster a community where guests feel comfortable learning and networking, then this is the tech conference for you.
