A Nashville, Tennessee teacher has been suspended after a video of someone lifting up and removing a student's hijab appeared on social media. Now, the Council on American-Islamic Rights (CAIR) is calling for a criminal investigation and the teacher to be fired.

In the video, an unidentified student can be seen hiding her face as someone out of the frame removed her headdress revealing the student's hair. According to WSMV, the video was posted on the popular app, Snapchat, with the caption "pretty hair" on the bottom of the video.

A concerned parent reached out to WSMV after reportedly coming across the video from that teacher's social media account. As expected, the teen's family was upset about the incident and upon further investigation Principal Dr. Tim Malone revealed that the teacher denied making a video and said exposing the girl's hair was not done out of disrespect.

But that has not stopped CAIR. The teacher's suspension last week was not enough. The council wants the teacher to be fired. Senior Litigation Attorney Gadeir Abbas said Friday, Nov. 10 that "the video depicts a criminal assault, evidently motivated by the religious identity of the student, which makes this a possible hate crime." CAIR wants law enforcement involved.

After being notified of the incident, the school released a statement reassuring the teen's family that New Vision Academy is committed to embracing and celebrating our racial, ethnic, religious and economic diversity.

"…The actions depicted in the Snapchat video do not reflect the values, culture or climate of New Vision Academy. New Vision Academy will continue to emphasize that all staff members act in a way meant to empower and inspire our students. New Vision will use this video as an opportunity to press forward with increasing cultural sensitivity and awareness among all members of the New Vision community…"
