At the International High School of New Orleans, having seniors apply to college has become a daily routine; so much so that 83 colleges and universities have accepted graduating senior Darrin Francois!

Talk about black excellence!

“I just applied, applied, applied,” Francois told Black America Web. “I didn’t know how many it was, so once they started to comet through the mail, I was like ‘oh my gosh, this many?’ Then they started coming more and more. Now, today, I have 83.”

Eighty-three acceptance letters and $3 million in scholarship funds later, Darrin has set the record for most acceptances at his school, Black America Web reported.

“I think we got on some of their nerves, to be honest with you,” Director of Student Support Services at International High School of New Orleans Rufus McGee said. “But we continued to hammer at them to let them know that the world is yours if you reach out and get it.”

Darrin has impressed his school and made his parents abundantly proud.

“Eighty-three colleges? That is wonderful, that is a blessing from God,” Bridget Francois, Darrin’s mother, said. “I’m very proud, a proud mother to see my son go forward into his success and go forward into his goals.”

Darrin has yet to choose a school, but with a wide net cast and acceptances rolling in, he will surely have his pick as he strives for a law degree.
