The National Museum of African-American History and Culture has been a nationwide hit since it opened its doors in late September 2016. Now, the Smithsonian extension will be featuring a compelling exhibit you won't want to miss.

The exhibit, appropriately titled More Than a Picture: Selections from the Photography Collection, will feature more than 150 pictures from key periods in our colorful, well-detailed history. The NMAAHC said that the series "showcases a striking visual account of key historical events, cultural touchstones and private and communal moments to illuminate African American life … from the eras of slavery and Jim Crow to Black Lives Matter."

Curators Michéle Gates Moresi and Aaron Bryant took their time to collect the images, making sure to include a variety of vibrant and emotionally-driven visuals to really captivate their audience. Some of the images include Devin Allen's award-winning imagery from the Freddie Gray protests in Baltimore, Pickle Jones' documentation of the Black Panther Party and Sharon Farmer's candids of the Anacostia Park Community Day in DC.

If you want to plan a trip to the nation's capitol to check it out, the exhibit plans to open May 5 with an ending date nowhere in the foreseeable future.
