GeetaFrom filmmakers Geeta Gandbhir and Blair Foster ("Mr. Dynamite: The Rise of James Brown"), the new short documentary "A Conversation With My Black Son" reveals parents’ struggles with telling their sons that they may be targets of racial profiling by police.

Says Gandbhir, "During Ferguson, my family and I have been really involved. My family is originally from India and my husband is African American, I have two boys, and so my husband and I have had to have that conversation [about the police]. Our oldest is ten and it broke my heart to have to have this talk. It’s such a loss of innocence."

On putting the project together, she adds,"Blair Foster is a friend of mine. She’s caucasian and comes from an area of the South that’s polarizing. She had been trying to have this conversation and was hitting a wall. So as filmmakers, we felt that this story of parents and children was universal, and something that everyone would be able to relate to."
