We recently reported on a Mississippi teacher who posted racist remarks on her Facebook page; now we've got our side-eyes on a Florida teacher.
Jordan Cataldo, a third-grade teacher at Carter G. Woodson Elementary School in Jacksonville stands accused of calling her black students “rats.”
She allegedly not only called the students rats, but said that they could "infest her class," one parent told WJAX CBS 47.
“[She also said] they’re only going to amount to be a bunch of ratchet Walmart workers, and also [said] that that’s why their race is either dead or in jail,” the parent added.
Cataldo did admit that she referred to rats as contagious creatures able to infect her students. However, it isn't clear that Cataldo made explicit reference to race.
Duval County Public School launched an investigation into the incident.
“There was enough evidence reviewed by the district that substantiates further action,” district officials said.
The district found that Cataldo did make unacceptable remarks in response to the disruptive behavior of several students; however, officials did not reveal what she was found to have said.
The teacher was facing punishment for breaking the school's rules on professional conduct, but resigned before she could be punished.
