Police conducted a welfare check on media personality Wendy Williams after an anonymous claim that Williams' husband, Kevin Hunter, poisoned her.

According to TMZ, the incident took place on January 18, a few months before Williams filed for divorce from her now estranged husband. Authorities allegedly received a call from someone who claimed to work for the talk show host's production company. The caller warned that they believed Hunter was slipping Williams something harmful and requested that police check up on her.

When the police arrived at the couple's New Jersey home, Hunter answered and told police that Williams was recovering from a recent illness.

According to a police report obtained by People, Hunter appeared hesitant to let the police inside the house, but he did so anyway.

They discovered Williams lying in her bed, covered from neck to toe with a blanket. Williams told authorities she was recovering from a fractured shoulder. During a December taping of The Wendy Williams Show, the 49-year-old was seen wearing a sling:

The report further states that an officer requested that Hunter leave the room so authorities could talk with Williams alone. He refused, claiming he wanted to be by her side. When an officer brought up the anonymous claim that Williams was being poisoned, People reports that Wendy became "tearful" but denied the poisoning.

The officers only left after Williams confirmed she was safe.

Williams filed for divorce from Hunter this month after more than 22 years of marriage. Hunter has since been fired from Williams' show as an executive producer.
