The short story goes… 18 years after leaving his homeland, Rod, a young Parisian of Guyanese descent, returns home following the disappearance of his elder brother. After his arrival, the revelation of a painful family secret sends Rod on a relentless quest for truth, and he gets drawn into the hostile world of illegal gold mining.

Directed by Marc Barrat (his feature film debut), Orpailleur will be the closing night film for the upcoming Caribbean Tales Film Showcase in Toronto, on September 5th, 10th, 12th, 14th and 15th.

The film stars Tony Mpoudja (as Rod), Julien Courbey, Sara Martins, and Jimmy Jean-Louis.

The film has actually long been released in France, and looks to be making a rare North American appearance next month; and based on the trailer below, I'd like to see more.

It's in French and, unfortunately, not subtitled. However, there's enough there to chew on.
