Been awhile since there’s been any news about this project – RZA’s feature directorial debut, The Man With The Iron Fist. Principal photography ended earlier this year, but we haven’t seen anything of it; no stills, no clips, no nothing. So, as of right now, I don’t think anyone knows what this baby is going to look, sound and feel like. Even plot revelations have been slim, other than the official synopsis.
Eli Roth, one of the film’s producers, along with Quentin Tarantino spoke with the Belfast Telegraph last week about the film, which is currently being edited, and revealed a few relatively minor details that I don’t believe we’ve known prior to today.
First, he describes the film as “a kung fu Star Wars movie. That could mean a number of things.
Secondly, he talks about Russell Crowe’s involvement (he co-stars in the film, along with Pam Grier, Lucy Liu and others), stating that he plays a character named Jacknife, and that since Crowe isn’t asked to carry the film (as the most recognizable actor in it), he was “free just to step in and go completely insane… he just went wild with it,” Roth said.
He added, “You think he is just a stranger passing through town, but in the opening scene, Crowe makes a very big statement with his knife.“
The film is currently in post-production; I thought it might make its debut at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, but that festival has already announced its full lineup, and the film isn’t in it. So, when it might make its debut is anyone’s guess; whether it’ll head straight to theaters, or first run the festival circuit, even briefly, and then open in theaters.
IMDB still lists its release date as 2011, and that might very well still happen. Though I’m expecting an early 2012 release.
If anyone has any media on the film, don’t be shy. Email me 🙂
