FilmDistrict will release Spike Lee’s much-anticipated Oldboy adaptation, which stars Josh Brolin, along with Sharlto Copley, Elizabeth Olsen, Samuel L. Jackson, and more, wide, on October 11, 2013.
Here’s a look at the first official full poster of the upcoming drama/thriller courtesy of Film District.
As we’ve been informed, the image you see is an actual shot from the film and not a composite (those who’ve seen Park Chan-wook’s revered 2003 adaptation of the manga, will recognize the scene from which this shot comes).
Also worth noting is that the Oldboy logo itself is Josh Brolin’s handwriting – inspired by the letters his character writes to his daughter in the film, while he’s in confinement.
We’ve been informed that the film’s first trailer debuts this Wednesday, and we’re certainly really looking forward to seeing what Spike has done with the material!
Spike Lee directs from a script penned by Mark Protosevich, who is also co-producing, along with Roy Lee, Doug Davison and Nathan Kahane of Good Universe.
October might seem like a long time from now, but it really isn’t, given how quickly the months just seem to be passing by. We’re in the middle of summer already.
Although I’m wondering if the film might actually premiere at some international film festival before then. It’ll be a perfect fit for Toronto. A TIFF premiere in September, create some buzz, build anticipation, and then it opens in USA theaters a couple of weeks later.
We’ll see.
In the meantime, check out the full first poster/one-sheet below (I almost didn’t recognize Josh Brolin):
