It’s apparent that Dorothy loves her daughter, but viewers feel she controls Dillard Bassett with money. They also are not fans of the way Dorothy treats Dillard Bassett’s husband, which escalated to nearly the point of no return this past season. Luckily, Dillard Bassett recently revealed things are on the mend.
The ‘Drive Back’ singer says things are ‘fine’
Dillard Bassett recently sat down for a chat with Angela Yee’s Lip Service podcast. Of course, the contentious relationship between her mother and husband was brought up and according to Dillard Bassett, there has been some progress between the two since her emotional reevaluation at the Season 6 reunion special that they were estranged.
“She was just at the house with us for Thanksgiving. And at first, I was like I don’t even know if she can come to the house because they haven’t talked,” she said, as reported by Urban Belle Mag. “She was supposed to call him, she never called him. She comes to the house and she acts like everything is fine. And I was like, ‘Excuse me, ma’am, you need to apologize to Chris.’ So she finally did. But it was like, ‘You know, I’m sorry if I said anything that was disrespectful.’ But that’s how…Black moms, Southern Black moms, that’s how they apologize.”
While her husband isn’t happy with how things have gone, Dillard Bassett says it’s necessary for him to let things go. “Chris was always going to be fine. He’s not interested in keeping up any kind of beef with my mom,” she explained. “So like it’s fine.”
She says her mother is being used for a storyline
Yee’s co-host Gigi Maguire said that she feels Dillard is embarrassed by her mother’s treatment of her husband. But for Dillard, embarrassed isn’t the word she’d use to describe her emotions.
“I don’t think I was embarrassed. I was shocked. And then I was just hurt because it’s my mom,” she said.
Furthermore, she says she’s upset because she feels like her mother is being used for a storyline, which she feels her mother is blind to. She cites the producers offering to fly her mother out as they desperately want her part of the show.
“And my mom was always like, ‘We’re not gonna let the show come between us. The show is just the show and we are a family.’ So then for her to do this, it’s like you let the girls basically use you and use us for a storyline, for a moment cause it was talked about for the rest of the season. And it became its own thing,” she added.
