Sean Combs aka P. Diddy (or whatever he's calling himself these days) has jumped on the bandwagon for Oscar nominated documentary Undefeated as executive producer (it opens February 17), and he'll also exec produce the feature film remake that The Weinstein Company is reportedly developing.

The Academy Award nominated (for documentary feature) football doc is directed by Daniel Lindsay and T.J. Matin about a single defining season of the Memphis Manassas Tigers high school football team; a severely underfunded and underprivileged program attempting a winning season after years of losses, whose fortunes reverse thanks to an immensely-devoted coach named Bill Courtney.

The film received critical acclaim at and after its SXSW debut in March 2011, and was quickly snatched up by The Weinstein Company for distribution AND remake rights.

I haven't seen the film yet, but from what I hear, it's worth all the acclaim, and its Oscar nom. I also can't offer any commentary on what the remake will look like, but I assume it'll tell the same story as the documentary, with some creative liberties likely taken in the adaptation.

We'll see… no word on any of that yet; other than that P Diddy is onboard as exec producer.

I'll be sure to watch the doc before or when it opens next week Friday.
