One security guard lived out his dream of being a college cheerleader this past weekend by joining the Tennessee Volunteers for one of their routines, The Sun reports. He nailed the choreography, and the crowd went wild.

In a viral TikTok of the performance, Michael Galyean is shown standing in front of the cheerleading squad while they dance. Galyean stands there for a few seconds until someone approaches him and tries to get him to move. Galyean appears to refuse, walking closer toward the cheerleaders instead of clearing the way.

Suddenly, he effortlessly joins in on the dance routine, and the crowd bursts into applause. Galyean ends his superstar moment by triumphantly raising his hands in the air.

Galyean, who many are calling “Blue Shirt Guy,” always dreamt of cheering for a crowd like the one on Saturday. He told Newsweek that he was a high school cheerleader, but gave up his dream when he got into the University of Tennessee.

“I knew every cheerleader in the state and then to just see the beast that is [University of Tennesee] cheerleading, I just went, ‘OK this isn’t for me,'” he said, according to Newsweek.

After making that choice, the “Blue Shirt Guy” moved on from cheerleading for two decades. He worked in retail for years after graduating from the University of Tennessee. But after he lost his retail job last year, he decided that it was time to revisit his true passion.

“So, I’ve spent the last year just throwing darts, whether it’s been the TV work that we have here in Knoxville, in front of and behind the camera, trying different things,” he said. “I host events around town, I work with different dance outlets.”

Galyean has known Kelley Tafazzoli, the dance team’s spirit program director, for a while, according to Newsweek. Tafazzoli said the team was looking for ways to revamp the fan experience. So the two cooked up this plan to make the security guard’s dream come true.

“[Kelley] just knew that I have a history of being a showboat,” Galyean said with a laugh. “I guess she felt comfortable that I would do the role well and with respect.”

Galyean did that and then some.

Fans couldn’t get over Galyean’s performance, and they flooded the TikTok video’s comments with praise.

“The hair flip was everything,” one viewer wrote.

“Omg so good,” another replied.

The “Blue Shirt Guy” himself commented, poking fun at the ruse at the beginning of the routine.

“I mean, one minute I’m working security… and the music just moved me, so I let the rhythm take over. Hope that was ok @vol_danceteam,” he wrote.

Galyean also posted his own TikTok thanking viewers for all their love and support.

“It just goes to show the power of dance, and that’s what we’re all thriving off of,” he said.

“Thank you so much,” he added. “Let’s see where this thing takes me.”
