Dame Shirley Bassey, the songstress maybe best known for recording the theme songs to a number of early James Bond films like Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever, and Moonraker, is getting the biopic film treatment!
However, this will be a small screen production for the BBC, to be titled Shirley Bassey: A Very British Diva.
The hour-long film will map Bassey’s rise from destitution to international stardom.
And who has been cast to play the iconic Bassey?
Brit actress of Ethiopian/irish descent Ruth Negga, whose resume includes both TV and film credits, from Misfits to Colour Me Kubrick.
The cast also includes Lesley Sharp, as Bassey’s mother and Henry Lloyd-Hughes as her manager and husband Kenneth Hume.
The completed film is scheduled to air on the BBC in the fall.
I suspect the film will include a little bit of this… (Thanks to regular S&A tipster Emmanuel):
