Since exiting her CNN show in February, Soledad O’Brien has been shoring-up deals here and there, ensuring that she stays active.
O’Brien formed a production company called Starfish Media Group, which reached an agreement to produce 3 documentaries for CNN in 2014, as the start of what will be a partnership that will see O’Brien’s company produce what is being described as a series of long-form programming specials.
She also signed a content development deal with HBO to produce projects developed by her company. She will also appear on the HBO program Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel (her first piece aired Tuesday night).
And there’s more… it’s been announced today that Starfish Media Group is also now in advanced negotiations with Al Jazeera America in a production deal that would see O’Brien’s company produce long-form programming and other types of content segments for the upcoming cable news network, which is set to launch later this summer.
After exiting CNN, O’Brien said, in a press statement, that she planned to “focus on the next stage of my career, owning my own work.” The latter half of that sentence is key. And it appears she’s doing just that.
