The Starz network has canceled Kelsey Grammer's political drama Boss, after just 2 seasons on the air, despite all the critical acclaim.
"After much deliberation, we have made the difficult decision to not proceed with [a third season of] Boss," Starz said in a statement released today.
The series averaged 937,000 viewers during its second season, down from 1.1 million on in its first.
I watched a total of 5 episode – 3 from last season, and 2 from the second, and I just couldn't quite get into the drama of it all. It could just be a matter of timing. There's a lot of competition in the drama department on cable TV (both non-premium and premium channels) – many of them being very good dramas that exist on cable TV networks that we could say are more popular brand names, like HBO and Showtime for example.
I still plan to return and watch both season entirely, especially since there a few black actors of note on the show, including the divine Sanaa Lathan, who joined the cast of the Golden Globe-winning drama series earlier this year, as well as returning cast members including singer/songwriter/actor Rotimi, and James Vincent Meredith.
And, oh yeah, T.I. was to join Lathan as one of the series' newbies.
Any Boss fans out there? Thoughts on the news?
