In March, Sundance Selects acquired North American and Latin American rights to Alexandre Moors’ debut feature Blue Caprice, which made its world premiere at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. 

The film, with a screenplay by R.F.I. Porto, was co-produced by Ron Simons (SimonSays Entertainment), alongside Isen Robbins, Aimee Schoof, Stephen Tedeschi, Brian O’Carroll, Kim Jackson and Will Rowbotham. 

It opened Film Society of Lincoln Center and MOMA’s 2013 New Directors/New Films Festival, and really hasn’t screened much at all since it left Sundance. 

Starring Isaiah Washington, Tequan Richmond, Joey Lauren Adams, Tim Blake Nelson and Leo Fitzpatrick, Blue Caprice, based on the story of the real-life Beltway sniper attacks of 2002, perpetrated by John Allen Muhammad, and Lee Boyd Malvo, is described as a haunting psychological thriller about an abandoned boy (Richmond) lured to America into the shadows of a dangerous father figure (Washington), and their distorted father-son relationship facilitated their long and bloody journey across the USA.

We learned over the weekend that Sundance Selects will release the film on September 20th, although no specifics on cities yet. I’d guess a limited theatrical in a handful of major markets, accompanied by a VOD release for the rest of the country, which isn’t out of the ordinary for Sundance Selects.
