Comedian and actor Teddy Ray, best known for his viral memes and appearances on Russell Simmons’ comedy platform, All Def Digital, has reportedly passed away.

The Los Angeles Times reports that on the morning of Friday, Aug. 12, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about a death at a private residence in Rancho Mirage, CA. The deceased has since been confirmed as Teddy Ray whose cause of death is currently unknown. Teddy Ray recently celebrated his 32nd birthday on July 30.

Teddy Ray, real name Theadore Brown, was born and raised in West Los Angleles, California. He quickly rose in Internet popularity with viral videos that gave Black Twitter its classic go-to references like “You’re 36” and “Double-cheeked up on a Thursday.”

The self-proclaimed ‘Funny Fat Guy’ made his television debut on BET’s Comic View and has also appeared on season 8 of MTV’s Wild ‘N Out, Comedy Central, and HBO’s All Def Comedy.

Teddy Ray’s sudden death came as a shock to friends and fans across the globe. As the news spread, condolences and tributes to the beloved comedian began pouring in.

“Heartbroken. Gonna miss you, Teddy,” wrote fellow comedian and Abbott Elementary Quinta Brunson on Teddy Ray’s Instagram page.

“My brilliant n***a. So sorry. Love u,” wrote Katt Williams.
