Update (February 12, 2020): The strip club where dancer Genea Sky fell from a 15-foot pole and fractured her jaw will not be taking responsibility for the incident.
Eric Langan, the CEO of RCI Hospitality Holding Inc., which owns XTC Cabaret in Dallas, told TMZ they did not tell her to climb the pole and have no plans to remove them.
Dancers choose their routines as the company has no control over what the performers do on stage. Since she’s not a full-time employee, she can’t receive worker’s comp, but Langan says they are planning to help Sky financially as she recovers.
Since the incident, Sky has undergone surgery. Her jaw is currently wired shut, according to her Instagram.
Her GoFundMe page has already exceeded the goal of $20,000. While she’s been criticized for asking for financial help, Sky took to Instagram to explain that the money will be going to medical expenses. She said she will not be able to work while recovering and is putting herself through school.
Original story (February 10, 2020): Genea Sky was the talk of the internet on Monday when a video of her terrifying fall from the top of a 15-foot stripper pole racked up millions of views on Instagram and Twitter. Sky took to Instagram to share the details after continuing her routine despite falling directly on her face during her performance.
While the internet had plenty of jokes, the situation was potentially deadly for Sky who was stripping at XTC Cabaret in Dallas, Texas, according to TMZ.
Yes, I fell off the pole.
Yes, I fractured my jaw.
NO, I’m not fucking okay.
And there’s absolutely NOTHING funny about this situation. This is the worst pain I’ve ever felt and I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone.— Honey Badger (@Genea_Sky) February 9, 2020

In a series of tweets and videos posted to Instagram, Sky said she fractured her jaw, cracked multiple teeth and sprained her ankle. She said she'll need surgery for her jaw while tearfully recounting the terrifying fall in her Instagram video. The Texas native thanked people for checking up on her and sharing kind words.
"I pretty much broke my jaw. I have to have surgery on it tomorrow. I broke some teeth and I got a sprained ankle, and I got some stitches. Aside from that, I'm good. I have no broken limbs. I walked away myself. I got up right after it happened," Sky said.
"This isn’t for attention. This video is to update everyone and thank you guys for all the love and support. I’m truly blessed and I appreciate everyone’s kind messages. Thank you so much," she wrote on Instagram.
One of her friends, Ayana Knowles from Addison, Texas, created a GoFundMe page to cover her medical expenses, writing that the club doesn't cover injuries and that she will be out of work for months.
"My friend Genea was in a horrible accident while she was working. She now has a fractured jaw, broken teeth, and a sprained ankle. Her job does not cover the expenses of her medical bills. Since she sustained such serious injuries, she will be out of work for an extended period of time. Any donations towards her surgeries would be helpful and appreciated! Thank you all in advance," Knowles wrote on GoFundMe.
Nearly 1,000 people have donated, surpassing their goal of $20,000.
The situation even elicited responses from rappers 50 Cent and 21 Savage whose song "Immortal" was playing when Sky fell. Under one of the Instagram videos of the incident, Savage wrote: "She got right listening to that immortal."
While she took some Twitter users to task for being insensitive about her injuries, she did take some time to retweet a few funny comments about the situation.
