Earlier this year, Image Entertainment (which is owned by Robert Johnson’s RLJ Entertainment company) picked up USA release rights to the sci-fi thriller The Colony, which stars Laurence Fishburne

Image has now released the film on iTunes as a rental (although if you’d like to buy it instead, you’d like to buy it outright instead of rent, it’ll be available for sale in October).

There was previously word of a theatrical release starting this Friday, but that doesn’t look like it’s going to happen. But, at least, those interested can rent it on iTunes.

A new clip from the film debuted today (via Bloody Disgusting) and is embedded below.

Budget at $16 million, and said to be the first film ever to be shot inside the former NORAD base buried 60 stories below the earth, the Canadian-produced film is directed by Jeff Renfroe, from a script he co-wrote with Patrick TarrPacal Trottier and Svet Rouskov

The story centers on a group of underground survivors fighting to survive after the next Ice Age, fending off an invasion of feral cannibals.

Bill Paxton co-stars with Fishburne.

Paul Barkin, Matthew Cervi and Pierre Even produced.
