An all-male school in Detroit has achieved a one-hundred percent acceptance rate for the ninth year in a row.

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, college enrollment rates amongst Black men nationwide were at 33% in 2017. Loyola High School has far exceeded the national average. Every graduating senior has been accepted into a two-year or four-year college. Built on the principles of integrity, compassion and courage this Catholic school seeks to provide a safe learning environment for  young men from underserved communities. Loyola has an 8:1 student teacher ratio and a widely recognized debate team.

This achievement could be attributed to the school’s “Signing Day” program. This year-long program works to increase college readiness particularly among low income students and first-generation college-going students by working in conjunction with the Michigan College Access Network.

The students will also be supported through the beginning of their college careers by the school’s College Transition program.

This high school continues to challenge its students beyond academia by encouraging students to be reflective and committed to the service of faith and justice.
