Update (June 4, 2019): After going viral for calmly denying hotel accommodations to a bigot, Craig Brooks is doubling down on recently resurfaced transphobic tweets.

Ten or more tweets were screenshot and shared by Twitter users in the two days since viral video of Brooks was published on June 2. In the video, recorded by the 26-year-old hotel clerk, a woman called to book a room at the Holiday Inn Express in Austin, Texas. She was apparently distraught over her mother's passing. However, her sadness was not an excuse for racism. She called Brooks a "f**king n****r" in a racist tirade. Realizing she made a crucial mistake, the unnamed woman apologized and begged for a room and she was swiftly denied. "You weren't sorry when you said it to me on the phone… It's above me now," Brooks said. The Austin resident was praised for how he handled the situation. Phrases like "It's above me now" and the "Best Western is next door” were quickly deemed a mood.

But resurfaced tweets quickly turned him from hero to hell no. In the posts, Brooks used religion to shame trans people.

“I'm gay, I'm sinning already. But y'all trans people are on another level that I just can't get with. Y'all playing with God changing sex." Other tweets ran the gamut of praising President Donald Trump's trans military ban to blaming some of the bigotry the LGBTQ community faces on trans people. Despite the backlash, Brooks seems to not care. He used his new catchphrase to feign indifference.

"You dug all that up. Did I lie tho?" Brooks brazenly wrote in response to the sharing of his old posts.

Two hours later, he seemingly changed his tune.

Nonetheless, looks like folks are over him.

Original: A video showing the moments after a hotel employee named Craig Brooks was allegedly called a "n****r" by a white customer went viral on Monday.

After the white woman verbally harassed the hotel employee during a phone conversation, Brooks  swiftly turned her away and barred her from making a reservation at the establishment. Brooks didn't hold back, but he also didn't let the angry woman get the best of his emotions. In a quick response, he told her that “in the climate that we live in today’s society…. It’s above me.”

The video of the encounter has gone viral on Twitter with many citing “It’s Above Me” as their mood for the summer.

As expected, the white woman in the video did not hesitate to turn on the water works to make herself the victim in this situation. She cried, “Please, I’ve had a horrible day today." In response, the man in the video told her, “and I had a horrible time hearing that." He then directed her to the Best Western next door.

Unfortunately, his fifteen minutes have been cut short because of transphobic comments he made back in 2017 on Twitter. To make the situation worse, Craig has doubled down on his comments as well. It's unclear if these resurfaced comments will have an impact on his employment.

Craig’s ability to maintain his composure while dealing with this instance of overt racism has allowed him to keep his job.
