Some quickie TV casting news…
First, British actress Tracy Ifeachor has been cast in Luther creator Neil Cross’ NBC pirate drama, titled Crossbones.
The series, which already boasts Richard Coyle and John Malkovich as its leads, is set in 1715 on the Bahamian island of New Providence, where the diabolical pirate Edward Teach, aka Blackbeard (Malkovich), reigns over a rogue nation of thieves, outlaws and miscreant sailors.
Ifeachor has signed up to play a character named Nenna, who’s described as a smart, powerful fighter, completely loyal to Captain Blackbeard.
This will be the a British television and theatre actress’ USA debut.
The relative newcomer is maybe best known for playing the role of Abigail Naismith in Doctor Who episodes titled The End of Time Part 1 & 2.
Secondly, Khary Payton has booked a co-starring role opposite Ben Rappaport in the USA network’s comedy pilot Love Is Dead.
The series is written and executive produced by Zev Borow (Chuck), and is based on a French short film of the same name.
Love Is Dead is set at an agency that specializes in breaking up
romantic relationships for paying customers who are too chicken to do it themselves.
Payton will play a character named Doubting Thomas, who is a former
college football star who suffers a severe injury, and becomes employed with the agency as a “professional relationship termination associate.”
Payton’s resume includes lots of TV voice work on cartoons like Young Justice, New Teen Titans, G.I. Joe: Renegades and others. He also appeared as a regular during one season of daytime soap General Hospital.
