The 2024 BET Awards were a fiery spectacle as Tyla represented her homeland. On Sunday, the 22-year-old South African singer performed her latest hit, “Jump,” with Gunna and Skillibeng. Tyla’s debut performance took viewers on a safari ride.

The “Truth or Dare” singer made her grand entrance on stage wearing a brown leather two-piece bra, skirt set, and black thigh boots. She sang her track from behind a cage filled with dancers painted as giant tigers.

After Gunna and Skillibeng joined her on stage later in the show, the rising star concluded her energetic performance with one of her viral dance moves.

Having four nominations going into the night, Tyla won two: Best New Artist and Best International Act.

On winning the former, she said, “First of all, I love Sexyy Red. I love her so much. This is such a gift to be here. I want to dedicate this one to Africa. I want to dedicate this to all the African superstars before me that didn’t get these opportunities that I’m getting. This is just amazing. Africa to the world guys.”

When she won Best International Act earlier in the night, she said, “Guys, I did not prepare anything, but I just want to say thank you so much to my Tygers [her fanbase], my, my team.”

Earlier this year, Tyla had to cancel her tour

Tyla was set to go on a massive tour and had to cancel, which makes this performance big for her fans.

She had to pull out of the tour due to a health issue.

“I am absolutely heartbroken to have to say this but as of right now I won’t be able to proceed with the tour,” she said in a part at the time. “In consulting with medical professionals it’s become increasingly clear that continuing any festival or tour dates would jeopardize my long-term health and safety.”
