“I had to gain 25 pounds during The Help and then I was padded. I gained weight by eating Mississippi food. They fry the butter before they put it on the bread and then they fry the bread!”
Words from Viola Davis on playing a middle-aged maid in the heavily debated upcoming movie The Help. So, wow… she put on 25 pounds, and STILL had to wear body pads on top of that? Just how big did she have to be?
Anyway, as I suggested in a previous post a day or two ago, for her next few roles, let’s hope she’s allowed to actually show off the “rock-hard body she is said to have, from working out 6 days a week with her college-linebacker-turned-actor husband Julius Tennon/.
This reminds me of what Jill Scott had to do in order to play the lead role in The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency; the creators of the show asked her to get larger than she already was. And she already was fairly large at the time anyway. She had to put on another 30lbs for the role on what sounded like a heart-attack inducing diet, and that STILL wasn’t enough; so they added padding to her hips, ass, arms and boobs!
Damn!
The things one has to do…
Anyway, here’s a clip of Viola Davis on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon earlier this week, as we rarely get to see her… as herself:
