A journalist once questioned a 14-year-old Venus Williams’ confidence, and her daddy didn't allow it.

Rapper Ric Wilson posted a vintage video of the young tennis prodigy being interviewed by a white male journalist. The clip has since gone viral, amassing over 3 million views.

The two seemed to be discussing an opponent, and young Venus declared, "I know I can beat her…I'm very confident.”

The reporter seemed perplexed by her confidence and replied, "You say it so easily. Why?"

Venus began to respond, but her father, Richard Williams, quickly put the ABC reporter in his place.

"You've got to understand that you're dealing with [the] image of a 14-year-old child. And this child is gonna be out there playing when your old ass and me are gonna be in the grave,” Richard told him.

When the journalist told Mr. Williams he couldn't keep interrupting, the father of the superstar sisters did what any black parent would do. He kept on talking.

"When she say something, we done told you what's happening," he continued. "You're dealing with a little black kid, and let her be a kid."

The clip's circulation comes just as Venus is slated to face off against her equally prolific AND confident sister, Serena, in the third round of the U.S. Open on Friday.
