Oscar co-host Wanda Sykes has talked about her feelings about Will Smith slapping Chris Rock over his poorly made joke about Jada Pinkett-Smith.
While on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Sykes said she was horrified at the action.
“I just felt so awful for my friend Chris. It was sickening,” she said. “I physically felt ill and I’m still a little traumatized by it.”
“And for them to let him stay in that room and joy the rest of the show and accept his award–I was like, ‘How gross is this?'” she continued. “This is just the wrong message. You assault somebody, you get escorted out of the building and that’s it. For them to let him continue, I thought it was gross.”

Over the past three days, there have been numerous opinions released from various stars, including Richard Williams, the subject of the film Smith won his Best Actor Oscar for, King Richard. Williams said to NBC News via his son, Chaviota LeSane, “We don’t know all the details of what happened. But we don’t condone anyone hitting anyone else unless it’s in self-defense.”
Smith's mother Carolyn also talked about the incident, saying, "He is a very even, people person. That's the first time I've ever seen him go off. First time in his lifetime…I've never seen him do that."
Smith officially released an apology to Rock, the Williams family, and the Academy, saying, “Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable.”
He continued, saying:
“Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally. I would like to publicly apologize to you Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be,” he continued. “There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness. I would also like to apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world. I would like to apologize to the Williams Family and my King Richard Family. I deeply regret that my behavior has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us. I am a work in progress.”
