John Luther (played by Idris Elba) returns to BBC One in July (for our UK readers), and BBC America on September 3 (for our USA readers), airing on 4 successive nights – September 3, 4, 5 & 6.

In episode 1, Luther investigates 2 new cases: a twisted fetishist who is murdering women in what looks like a copy-cat of an unsolved case from the 1980s; and the death of a malicious blogger, found dead in his home. 

It’s also the episode in which he meets Mary Day (played by Sienna Guillory) who may or may not become his love interest.
