Shows To Watch After 'Yellowstone'

By micahel vivar

The ensemble series, Yellowstone, starred Kevin Costner and first aired on June 20, 2018. It was a seminal hit for NBC's fledgling streaming service, Peacock.

The neo-Western followed the tribulations of the Dutton clan as their cattle ranch was beset by adversaries such as the Yellowstone Park Service and land developers.

Yellowstone's popularity elicited several prequel spinoffs. The series ended on Dec 15, 2024. There are others in the same vein that will appeal to fans. Here are seven.

'Bass Reeves' (Paramount+)

Like Yellowstone, the series is helmed by Taylor Sheridan. It tells the story of the eponymous first Black US Mashal on whom The Lone Ranger was based.

'Deadwood' (HBOMax)

The intrigues of a town in the Dakota Territories are described as "Shakespearian" by  fans. Stars like Timothy Olyphant and Ian McShane had breakout roles.

'Bonanza'(Tubi)

A family carving out life on the frontier runs through Westerns. The same goes for this classic. Unlike the grittiness of recent series, Bonanza's depiction is wholesome.

'The Mandalorian' (Disney+)

Set in the Star Wars universe, this is the adventure of a bounty hunter and the young charge he protects. It has the same motif of living at the edge of the law found in Westerns.

'Lonesome Dove' (Tubi)

The original sprawling, multi-generational epic of the Old West. It first aired in 1989 and is still beloved. There's hundreds of hours to watch spanning seven miniseries.

'Peaky Blinders' (Netflix)

Entirely fictional but based on an Irish crime family in Birmingham, England during the early 1900s. The mood shifts between seething menace to explosive action.

'Justified' (Hulu)

A suave US Marshal is transferred from Miami to his hometown in Kentucky. His return sets off dormant feuds. Watch for a gripping performance by Margo Martindale.
