Actress and comedian Amanda Seales has found herself in headlines recently following an appearance on the Club Shay Shay podcast with Shannon Sharpe.
During the interview, she opened up about feeling isolated on the set of Issa Rae’s Insecure, claiming she experienced mean-girl treatment from the cast.
An incident with Rae’s publicist led to her feeling iced out with brewing animosity, even getting kicked out of Insecure’s wrap party.
Regarding her relationship with Rae, Seales shared: “She wasn't empowering to me."
"She didn't feel like I was needed.”
During the three-hour interview, she also opened up about her experiences with neurodivergence, saying it manifests in her need to doodle when she’s focused and tone of voice.
Recently diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, Seales noted that Black women often go undiagnosed due to lack of research on Black women on the spectrum.
She also shared an experience with racism as a child. The only Black member on a dance team, she was called racial slurs and told she was selected only because she was Black.
Host and former NFL player Shannon Sharpe is currently under fire for seemingly invalidating her experiences, being combative throughout the interview.
Noting that “kids will be kids” and that Rae has always had “very empowering sets,”
Tension grew throughout the interview as the two found themselves at odds.
Seales has received much support since, sharing on Instagram “I’m so used to being vilified and misunderstood that to see so many folks finally hearing me has been cathartic.”
