'Wheel Of Fortune' Has Its First Same-Sex Couple Compete As Team During Sweethearts Week

Though Charlie and Kelly didn't win, their appearance on the show marked a huge milestone.

History has been made on Wheel of Fortune.

For the first time, a same-sex couple competed as a team in the February 16 episode during the show’s Sweethearts Week.

As TV Insider reports, contestants Charlie and Kelly began the episode by guessing the first puzzle —”Royal Wedding” — and earning $1000. Charlie then introduced himself and his husband, noting how much of an honor it was to be on Wheel of Fortune during its 40th anniversary of love week.

Charlie shared that he and Kelly were celebrating 25 years of being together, with Kelly then adding their poodle was home watching the show. “We love her to death. We take her everywhere,” he said.
