It looks like Wheel of Fortune found out the hard way that depicting black folks in front of a plantation mansion isn't southern charm.

Twitter user Joshua Itiola was the first person to notice that the two black women in a photo behind hosts Vanna White and Pat Sajak. Last Friday, he posted video and posed the question why Wheel of Fortune has slaves in their Southern Charm images.

The tweet went viral instantly garnering nearly 3700 retweets and 5200 likes. Which means that Wheel of Fortune's mentions was a mess.

Itiola and others believed the photo to be in bad taste and bring up the inhumane imagery and iconography of white supremacy during a fun and carefree game show.

However, the game show stated that the images were taken in 2005 during an on-location shoot at the Oak Alley Plantation in Vacherie, LA, according to the New York Daily News. Spokespeople for the plantation went a step further to distance themselves from this social media firestorm responding that they do not have actors depicting slaves. But there are tour guides that wear period clothing said Hillary Loeber, a plantation spokesperson.

Either way, the damage is done and producers have made a vow to correct the issue.

“We regret the use of this background image, and we will be replacing it moving forward on any rebroadcast,” Harry Friedman said in a statement to the Daily News.
