Shopping while black is still very much an issue and applies to any and every black person. Zendaya was no exception to the silent racial rule when she decide to purchase $400 worth of gift cards at Vons. The cashier refused to help the 20-year-old, going as far as tossing her wallet.

“She, like, tossed it, with my cards still loose. My cards were loose, so, like, my card fell on the scanner, and she was about to scan the next person!” said the Spider-Man: Homecoming star.

In the series of videos with her friend, she explains how knows there are certain rules when you buy certain things, but doesn’t think this was acceptable. She and her friend also discuss the cashiers issue with their skin tone. “Now there’s some certain, specific things you have to do when it comes to buying gift cards, there’s some certain limits and things. But the lady that was helping us, I don’t think she was a huge fan of our skin tone,” she said. Her friend agreed, saying, “Not at all! She was rude.”

Zendaya said the woman gave her a look like “you can’t afford this,” saying they couldn’t buy the cards. They both summed up pretty much the feeling of many of us who have to deal with shopping while black. “Can’t make this sh*t up. I just can’t make this sh*t up. This is what we deal with,” said Zendaya, with her friend interjecting, “because we’re black.”

A Vons spokesperson said that the issue was being able to buy cards up to the company’s limit, not Zendaya’s race, telling the LA Times, “We understand that race is a sensitive issue in America and view this experience as a reminder that every interaction is an opportunity to treat each customer as we ourselves would like to be treated.”

This goes to show, racism has no bounds, even if you’re a celebrity. In closing, Zendaya said, “Long story short, there’s so much progress to be done in our world.” She’s definitely right.
