Our own MsWOO (aka Wendy) is at the Cannes Film Festival right now, representing Shadow And Act, although she’s run into a few unexpected hurdles in the early half of the festival, hindering how productive she’s able to be; it’s our first year covering the festival, so there are certain things we’ve learned via firsthand experience this time around, that will ensure we are better prepared for next year’s installment of maybe the most significant festival in the world.

But MsWOO’s coverage of a number of films, interviews and more will be posted on the site soon enough. So, stay tuned…

In the meantime…

Thanks to Sean Jacobs at AIAC for pointing out this essay on the history of African films at the Cannes Film Festival, penned by Jean-Pierre Garcia, once editor of Le Film Africain & Le Film du Sud magazine (both now defunct). It’s a worthwhile read, and several of the names and titles mentioned will hopefully be familiar, as we’ve talked about some of these filmmakers before.
