Announced via press release this morning… A sequel to Marlon Wayans’ found-footage horror-comedy, A Haunted House, has officially been greenlit

Open Road, the company that released the first film, revealed the news this morning.

Marlon Wayans co-wrote the A Haunted House, which co-starred Essence Atkins and Cedric The Entertainer). It was released in January, and went on to gross over $40 million domestic, which was huge, considering that the film’s budget was just $2.5 million.
So it really shouldn’t be a big surprise that a sequel was greenlit. I assume the budget this time around will be a little higher, although likely still well below Hollywood averages.
It’s scheduled to be released on DVD, Blu-Ray, and VOD on April 23.
The tentative title for the upcoming sequel is A Haunted House 2, which will also be co-written by Wayans, who’ll star in it as well.

The film will be financed and produced by IM Global’s genre label Octane, with shooting scheduled to take place this summer.

No word on story however, although, per the press release, expect a similar kind of  R-rated brand of humor. While I’m certainly happy for Marlon and company, I just hope they know when it’s time to say goodbye to a franchise. In other words, I hope we’re not talking about A Haunted House Part 6 in another 3 or 4 years.

The deal was negotiated on behalf of Open Road Films by Tom Ortenberg, General Counsel and Executive Vice President of Operations and Business Affairs Elliott Kleinberg, and Senior Vice President of Acquisitions Ben Cotner. Larry Kopeikin and Kevin Yorn negotiated on behalf of Marlon Wayans.
