There’s this other thing, ‘Broken City,’ that I want to do at the end of next year with Allen Hughes directing, which is on the Black List. It’s one of the best unproduced screenplays, an amazing piece of material that should attract amazing talent.

Those are words from Mark Wahlberg, spoken last year, while promoting The Fighter. We missed that… but thanks to The Playlist, now we know.

Fast-forward to today, as Deadline reports that the project “has now been set up to be financed by Emmett/Furla Films at a $60 million budget.

Nice chunk of change for Mr Allen Hughes to play with.

So, what’s Broken City about? It’s described as “a noir-style drama about an ex-cop turned private detective who is hired by the mayor to see if his wife is cheating on him. When the mayor’s wife’s cheating partner ends up dead, the private eye immerses himself in the mayor’s business and uncovers a real estate scandal that involves dealing himself choice city-owned properties.

No word on when we can expect this; but it’s good to see Allen Hughes is still very much in play, after exiting the Akira project earlier this year.
