nullBritish actress Angela Griffin (Coronation Street, Waterloo Road) will have a co-starring role in the high-stakes poker thriller The King’s Men, when the Schuman Hoque-helmed film goes into production at the end of July.

This is according to the website of production company Stealth Media Group/ Stealth Indie, who are handling those duties along with Capital Films Ltd.  Also starring in the The King’s Men are John Hannah, Martin McCann, Katarina Cas, and Steven Farah, who happens to also be the film’s writer.

Check out the synopsis and conceptual trailer for The King’s Men:

In a game of cards, how much of winning is based on luck, chance, talent… or theft?

Ace Macbeth has a prodigious talent for cards. In a desperate attempt to raise money to save his dying mother Ace turns to poker. But with time against him Ace is drawn to Dexter, the enigmatic character who introduces Ace to ‘The Game’ where the stakes are so high that life and limb are at risk – literally. This leads Ace into a decadent, violent underworld populated with malevolent characters where no one is sure who is pulling the strings. The more Ace and Dexter win, the more there is to lose. The King’s Men strips back the gold from the gutter. It is a world where the lines between good and bad is blurred, and dark secrets and violence are rife.

Before The King’s Men makes it to a screen near you, Griffin will be seen on London’s West End, co-starring in One Man, Two Guvnors when that stage production returns to the Theatre Royal Haymarket in September 2013.
