Rejoice And Shout, a film we’ve written about a couple of times on Shadow And Act, while it screened on the festival and series circuit in the last year, will now be released in theaters across the country.

Calling itself the DEFINITIVE history of Gospel music, and directed by Don McGlynn, the documentary features interviews with musicians like Smokey Robinson, Mavis Staples, Ira Tucker, Marie Knight, and many, many, many more. It traces the history of gospel music from its beginnings on Southern plantations and Baptist churches to national prominence. Featuring a wealth of archival footage of legendary gospel acts such as Mahalia Jackson, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, The Dixie Hummingbirds, The Staples Singers, The Blind Boys of Alabama, and several others.

Magnolia Pictures acquired rights to the film and will release it in a limited theatrical release beginning this weekend, June 3rd. And they’ve released another clip from it, which I embedded below; this one titled “Solider Of Love“:
